These delightful photos were taken by Edward Reilly in Kenya's Tsavo National Park, where the elephants appear red. This is due to the colour of the iron-rich earth, which (not surprisingly when you look at these photos!) the elephants are coated with. Mud is not only great for elephant games, but also plays an important role in protecting an elephant's skin from biting insects and the sun's powerful rays. Here we see a herd of elephants having a great time, and getting really dirty!
